Frequently Asked Questions
When are practices?
Practices vary by team and are up the coach's discretion. Practices will be held at Mountain's Edge Regional Park. We have the fields from 5:45 until 8:30 pm on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.
Playground Division holds their activity practice on Saturday morning at Paiute Park
Teams in the U6 and U8 division have a single 45 to 60 minute practice during the week at Mountain's Edge Regional Park. The U10, U12 and U15 divisions can have 2 practices during the week 60 to 90 minutes each at Mountain's Edge Regional Park.
Practice days and times are determined by the coach, usually at the first team meeting of the season. If you would like to choose your practice days, we encourage you to become a coach!
When and where are games played?
Playground, U6 and U8 will play Saturday morning at Paiute Park. U10 and U12 will play on Friday night at Mountain’s Edge Regional Park. U15 will play on Saturday at Nathanial Jones Park.
What equipment will my child need?
Shin guards are mandatory during all practices and games. Full-coverage shoes are required, and it is advisable to use shoes designed specifically for soccer. A limited number of balls will be supplied, but it is ideal for every child to have their own soccer ball for practicing and playing on their own. (Playground, U6 & U8 use a size 3 soccer ball. U10 & U12 use a size 4 soccer ball. U15 use a size 5 soccer ball.)
Our AYSO teams play in uniforms supplied by the Region which are included in the registration fee. Regions also provide field equipment, such as goals, nets and flags.
Can my player play in an older division?
We take this on a case by case basis after holding player evaluations. If your child is interested in playing up he/she must be evaluated by our staff.
Can my player be on the same team as their friend?
One of AYSO core values is to have balanced teams for fair and fun play. We balance teams first and take special request second.
We do allow for Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches to choose to volunteer for the same team. Their children would then be placed on the same team. Email [email protected] to request for your coaching staff to be on the same team.
Can I request my coach?
The only coach requests that we take is to match the coach with their child.
When do I get contacted by my coach?
Coaches will be receiving their team rosters in early August. Coaches will receive their team roster once the background check and training is completed.
I'm on the waitlist, will my child get to play? What can I do to make sure they get off the waitlist and onto a team??
Volunteer!! We are an organization run entirely by volunteers. That means we need you, parents, to step up and be our coaches and referees. We open up more teams as we get coaches and referees to cover those teams. If you are willing to be a coach or referee so that we can open up more teams and get your child off the waitlist and onto the roster, fill out a volunteer application and let us know you are ready to step up by emailing us at [email protected] . No previous soccer experience is required. We have professional coach and referee trainers ready to help you out.
What training is required for volunteers?
AYSO provides training for all of our volunteers. All volunteers will need to complete the following:
- BACKGROUND CHECK - Completed through Sterling Volunteers
- SAFE SPORT - Completed through US Center for Safe Sport
- AYSO SAFE HAVEN COURSE
- CDC CONCUSSION PROTOCAL COURSE
- AYSO SUDDEN CARDIAC ARREST COURSE
- AYSO TRAINING COURSE (There are course for COACHES, REFEREES, BOARD MEMBER or VOLUNTEER Training by Job Description)
